Kirkcudbright Academy Pupils Attend Rotary Peace Conference

Rotary International have delivered six Peace Conferences in different countries around the world in their bid to highlight Rotary’s commitment to peace.

Coventry, City of Peace, was one of the six chosen. It took place on Saturday 24th February at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. Six Advanced Peace Advocates from Kirkcudbright Academy, supported by their teacher and Rector, were asked by Kirkcudbright Rotarian Jean Best to deliver a breakout session to eighty young people.

Magnus Riley, an ex-Kirkcudbright student and an Advanced Peace Advocate, now at Edinburgh University, gave a keynote speech to five hundred and fifity delegates, raising awareness of “Lad Culture”.

He then worked with other APA’s to discuss his presentation, relating to prejudice, bias and stereotype, working with eighty young people and fifty adults. Kirkcudbright Academy were the only school providing this level of expertise and they most certainly initiated an excellent session.
