The Haill Six Incorporated Trades of Kirkcudbright held their annual Kirkin’ of the Deacon Convener on Sunday. The inclement weather conditions did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the large number of Deacons and Journeymen who participated in the colourful spectacle.

Marching to the stirring tunes of Piper Murray Wylie, Deacon Convener Ian Swan led the company through the town to the Parish Kirk for worship. The Incorporated Trades were joined by Deacon Convener Brian Colquhoun from Irvine and Master Cordwainer Sharon Hobman from York . Marching for the first time were MSP Finlay Carson and the Cornet Matthew Hyslop and his Lass Skye Taylor. Provost Lesley Garbutt had double duties, representing the Community Council and as a member of the Incorporated Trades in her own right.

Worship was led by the Reverend Marion Dickson whose sermon highlighted the modernization of the Incorporated Trades with women joining for the first time in 591 years .
