GREAT TURN OUT FOR LOCHSIDE AND LINCLUDEN FAMILY FUN DAY

On Sunday 15th May families came together from across Lochside and Lincluden and further afield for a free family fun day in Lochside.

A small group of adults from North West Dumfries, supported by the Community Learning and Development Service, Nithsdale Adult Learning Team, gave up their time to provide activities for all ages.

The event attracted over 500 local residents and, with the sun shining, families enjoyed a range of activities such as  inflatables, BBQ, face painting, biscuit decorating, puppet making, storytelling, messy play, Shed Therapy and the mobile youth centre My Pod, hosted by a range of organisations including the Coast Guard and Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service,

The Fun Day was funded by the Lottery’s Awards for All as part of a wider funding stream to encourage more adults to get involved in their community.

Yana McEwan, a North West Dumfries Volunteer said “It’s been a cracking day out, everyone has had a great time and the weather for once has really helped!  I would urge anyone wanting to be a part of more fun days gets in touch.”

Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council Ronnie Nicholson said; “I would like to thank all volunteers who worked with staff to put on such a great event. This was a great opportunity for families to come together to enjoy an afternoon of activities at Lochside Children’s Service Centre.  Feedback on the day was really positive and we are keen to work with parents to ensure more events like this take place locally”

Councillor Tom McAughtrie, Chair of Communities said; “This was a fantastic day which brought together families from North West Dumfries and further afield to take part in a wide range of activities and voice their opinions on what they would like to see more of in the local area.”
