McAlpine Praises Clark’s Little Ark, Sanquhar

MSP Joan McAlpine was down on the farm last week when she visited Clark’s Little Ark in Sanquhar.

The South of Scotland SNP member came to offer support to the animal sanctuary set up by Alison Shankly and named after her late son Clark.

Ms McAlpine and her staff member Kenelma McCrae of Lochmaben were particularly taken with the Shetland ponies and tame sheep, which star in many community events in the town.

Ms McAlpine said:

“Alison suffered a tragic loss yet has created a fitting tribute to her son, bringing happiness to so many people. I heard in particular about the therapeutic and social benefit the sanctuary brings to disabled groups who visit, as well as children.”

During the visit, Alison and volunteer David Weir explained to Ms McAlpine the sanctuary’s need for a chemical toilet and a shelter for visitors.

The MSP said she would support their campaign to obtain these.
