Mike Duguid Recognised for NTS Volunteer Work

Stalwart long-term volunteer Mike Duguid, Chair of the Friends of Broughton House and Garden,Kirkcudbright received the George Waterston Award for outstanding service from Jillian Carrick, Depute Chair of the National Trust for Scotland, at a presentation this week during the NTS Scotland annual volunteer recognition event.

A spoklesperson for the NTS said “An ex-President of the Global Burns Federation, Mike is adept at guiding visiting special interest groups from around the world around the property and giving unique access to E A Hornel’s significant collection of works by and about Burns. After retiring from a career with the RAF, Mike undertook a post-graduate qualification which focused on stories and storytelling and has proved invaluable in his time with us.
As a fund-raiser Mike has been instrumental in devising popular programmes of classical concerts and expert lectures which have raised many thousands of pounds specifically for Broughton House, and have enabled the Friends to be the biggest contributor to the purchase of a new work by Hornel for the permanent exhibition – the first for thirty years. He is usually present to support Friends events too, from setting out the seating to pouring the wine and putting the seats away again. Many thanks from all of us Mike – we’re so glad your contribution has been acknowldeged!”
