MOUSWALD PRIMARY SCHOOL SET FOR CLOSURE

A rural primary school in Dumfries and Galloway which currently has just two pupils is likely to close in July 2016.

Mouswald Primary School, is the second school Dumfries and Galloway council officials have recommended for closure in the last two months, St Peter’s Roman Catholic Primary in Dalbeattie is also earmarked to shut.

Dumfries and Galloway Council officers have recommended that children from Mouswald could possibly attend the nearby Collin Primary School.

Parents, staff and members of the community accepted the proposed closure at a statutory consultation meeting held last September.

A report to next week’s education committee says all who attended the meeting last September accepted the move for closure and were keen to understand if there was any intended future use for the school.

The final decision will be taken by Councillors next week with a recommendation that the Scottish Ministers be notified.
