MSP Highlights Winter “Help for Heating Fund” from Land-Based Occupations Charity RSABI

South of Scotland  MSP Joan McAlpine has highlighted a new round of funding from charity RSABI available to eligible constituents with a land-based background in Dumfriesshire.
The MSP recently met with Dumfriesshire-based RSABI Welfare Officer Pamela Samson who briefed Ms McAlpine on the scheme.
The “Help for Heating Fund”, from charity RSABI, is available on a first come, first served basis and provides single grants each of £300 for people who have depended on land-based occupations.
South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine said:
“With winter just round the corner, many people in Dumfriesshire will be worrying about how they are going to pay their energy bills.
“For those who have worked in land-based occupations, RSABI’s “Help for Heating Fund” could mean an extra bit of help over the winter months.”
As well as financial support, RSABI offers friendship and advice for those who have worked in land-based industries. Qualifying occupations include agriculture, crofting, forestry, horticulture, fish-farming, gamekeeping and rural estate work. Other jobs that wholly depend on providing services to these industries are considered on a case by case basis.
Ms McAlpine added:
“I was extremely impressed by the range of support available from RSABI.
“Keeping warm in winter is a serious concern for many of my constituents, particularly those living in more rural areas.
“The Scottish Government has also invested a further £224 million in the latest energy efficiency scheme.
“Regardless of employment background, if any of my constituents are worried about their energy bills or struggling to heat their homes I would urge them to also contact the free Home Energy Scotland helpline.”
