Dumfriesshire MSP Oliver Mundell has hit out at Stagecoach bosses after they confirmed they are pressing ahead with cuts to bus services in his constituency.
As of this week, buses serving the Georgetown, Calside and Larchfield areas of Dumfries as well as the town centre are going to be reduced in frequency as the company bids to cut costs.
However, that decision has angered Mr Mundell who says the cutbacks will have huge effects on many of his constituents who rely on a half hourly service.
Commenting Oliver Mundell MSP said: “I am very disappointed that Stagecoach have decided to press ahead with these reduction in services across Dumfries.
“This will be a major blow to many people in my constituency who rely on these services whether for work, visiting family and friends or for getting into the town centre for shopping.
“What I find most disappointing is that Stagecoach bosses have not given me a full explanation as to how they came to this decision to reduce services 3 and 4 in Dumfries.
“That is the least I would expect in terms of informing passengers before they suddenly have to work around significant changes in their services.
“I hope that Stagecoach can have a re-think on this and recognise that these services are a vital part of the community and the local economy and re-establish half hour services in the town, particularly during peak times.”
