Participatory Budgeting Applications Open

Dumfries and Galloway Council are launching a call for applications to their latest round of Anti-Poverty Participatory Budgeting Funding– Working Your Way Out of Poverty. £200,000 of funding is available to groups across Dumfries & Galloway.

This funding can be used to increase employment opportunities within organisations. We are offering organisations the opportunity to increase their capacity by recruiting additional staff to support them to deliver projects which tackle the various forms of poverty within our region. This targeted approach to funding will support organisations to increase their capacity in order to deliver critical services during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.
The projects which we are hoping will be delivered through this funding will ultimately increase income from employment, help to reduce the costs of living and increase income from national and regional benefits and benefits in kind.
The fund is now open for applications and closes on Monday 15 March.

Councillor Andy Ferguson, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee noted:
“We’re very pleased to again offer the opportunity for community groups to take part in our next round of Participatory Budgeting to help to tackle poverty and inequalities within our region. This funding has been developed to help to increase the number of employees within the organisations who are delivering the essential services to those most in need and would be an ideal opportunity for volunteers to progress to these individuals becoming paid employees.”
Councillor John Martin, Vice Chair of Communities Committee stated:
“This funding offers the chance for additional core costs which many groups and organisations are desperate for at this time. Many have benefitted from the extra funding which has been allocated from external funders for additional project costs but are struggling to maintain the momentum and delivery of their support to their communities. This fund will provide the costs to cover all or part of the costs for a new employment post and that extra pair of skilled hands will make a huge difference to each and every successful group.”
