Robert and Margaret Maxwell who own and run the popular Polarbites Fish and Chip Restaurant in Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway have recently donated the money they have raised with the 5p bag charge over the last year to two charities that are very close to their hearts.
They donated £350 of the cash raised to McMillan Cancer Support, and the rest of the money totalling £200 was handed over to Gordon and Susan who run The 3R’s Horse Rescue Centre, Gatehouse of Fleet.
The 3 R’s Horse Rescue Centre was awarded Charity Status on the 11th Sept 2017. Charity number – SC047724, and they carry out invaluable work there helping with re-homing and rehabilitation of unwanted or abused horses and ponies. You can find out more by clicking HERE.
Margaret Maxwell from Polarbites told DGWGO “Gordon and Susan are two extremely hard working folk who have the best interests of the horses at heart. Anyone who has a passion for horses is lucky to have a sanctuary such as The 3 R,s local to this area. It must be an expensive place to run with feed and vet bills etc so we were happy to help.”
Margaret continued “We saved the carrier bag 5p charge from last year and that’s what we donated. We gave £350 to McMillan Cancer Support and with the rest of the money we saved it allowed us to give £200 to Susan and Gordon who work hard and thoroughly deserved the donation and most importantly, it’s local.”
Susan Halliday Murdoch from the 3R’s Horse Sanctuary told DGWGO “We would like say a huge thank you to Margaret and Robert Maxwell and all their team at Polar Bites (the best chip shop bar none) ….. for their fabulous donation to the 3Rs.
This very generous amount of £200 will go a long way to helping the centre look after the 50 plus horses we have at the moment.”
