As of 5am this morning, Thursday 18th of January 2018, the previously issued Met Office amber weather warning comes to an end. As a consequence, the advice offered by Police Scotland has been downgraded to High Risk. This means that you should drive with extreme caution. If you must drive, there is a high likelihood of disruption on the roads and you should expect lengthy delays.
Superintendent Calum Glenny said: “Despite some difficult weather conditions in the Dumfries and Galloway area which caused some disruption, the weather was not as severe as was first forecast. Thankfully, a significant number of motorists heeded the warnings which had been issued to avoid travelling on the roads and I’d like to thank them for doing so.
“When we take decisions to upgrade travel warnings, we do so with careful consideration and public safety is paramount at all times.
“Please continue to drive with caution. Drive to the weather conditions, continue to monitor forecasts and keep informed on any changes to road conditions or warnings by following the relevant social media channels.”
