Region-Wide Integration As Facilities Re-Open

DG Customer Services facilities in Kirkcudbright and Eastriggs reopened this week, as part of our Council’s push to bring together public services under the one roof.
Capital works to refurbish the Kirkcudbright facility in Daar Road have now been completed, and the facility now plays host to Kirkcudbright library, customer service centre and registration services all in the one place. The facility was officially opened on Monday 5 December by Communities Committee Chairman, Councillor Tom McAughtrie.
Councillor McAughtrie was joined by some of the facilities frequent users and commented on how good the improvements looked;
“This facility is fit for purpose, and provides the public with access to lots of services under the one roof. Here you can borrow books, rent DVD’s, access the internet, report problems with streetlights or make an appointment with the registrar, among many other services. Our Council made a commitment to providing facilities such as this right across the region and I am pleased to officially open the facility here in Kirkcudbright.”
The following day, on Tuesday 6 December, Councillor John Martin (Vice Chairman of Communities Committee) reopened the refurbished customer service facility in Eastriggs. The library area has been extended in the facility to offer a wider choice of literature to users of the library, and other work has been carried out to make the facility a multi-functioning integrated facility that’s consistent with other facilities in the region. Visitors to the facility will now have all the services available to them in Eastriggs that other DG customer service facilities offer up.
Councillor Martin officially cut the ribbon and said;
“The work that’s been carried out in here has made a real difference. The library has been increased and offers a wide choice of books for people of all ages. It was good to see the schoolchildren in the facility and I hope they can make good use of the upgraded library area. I am confident the other services available in the centre will also be of benefit to the residents of Eastriggs and the surrounding area.”
Customers in both facilities during the openings were complimentary of the updated facilities. One said;
“This is exactly what Kirkcudbright needs. Everything together to save walking around the town in the cold and wet. Well done the Council.”
Another commented;
“The Council should be praised for this upgrade. I wasn’t sure moving here was best for the library but it looks marvellous.”
A keen reader in Eastriggs said;
“I’ll certainly be making more use of the facility. It’s made a big difference to the library. The grandkids and I will be back in next week.”
