Local MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed confirmation by Scotland Transerv that resurfacing works on a stretch of the A77 north of Stena road will take place in September.
The road surface improvements were originally scheduled for March and then rescheduled to July. However, concerns had been raised that closing the stretch of road and diverting all traffic on to the A75 during the busy summer period for the ferry port would cause major disruption.
After receiving a number of letters from local residents and businesses raising concerns over the timing of the works, Finlay Carson met with Scotland Transerv, who are contracted by Transport Scotland to manage the road, to request that the works be rescheduled.
The work, now due to take place over the week of 1st to 8th September, will involve resurfacing approximately 600m of existing trunk road.

“I am delighted that Scotland Transerv have taken on board the legitimate concerns of local residents and businesses and confirmed that the resurfacing works will now take place in September.
“This work is much needed and I’m sure will be welcomed by everybody in the area, particularly those travelling to the ferry terminal.
“I welcome Scotland Transerv’s recognition and acknowledgement of the importance of local events like the Stranraer Oyster Festival when scheduling road maintenance and that to carry out this work during one of the busiest periods for that stretch of road would have caused undue disruption to road users.”
