Scottish SPCA announce Judith Ralston as school film competition judge

The Scottish SPCA is delighted to announce BBC Scotland weather presenter, Judith Ralston, as one of the judges for its school film competition.

A Spokeseperson for the Scottish SPCA stated “We launched our first ever primary and secondary school film competition for Scottish schools earlier in the year and the seasoned broadcaster will be judging the submissions.
The competition is part of the free Prevention through Education programme that we offer to encourage pupils to become responsible animal citizens, and encourage empathy and compassion towards animals.”
Head of education and policy, Gilly Mendes Ferreira said, “We are thrilled to have Judith involved in the school film competition.
“With her experience and background, we know that she will bring a fresh and journalistic approach to the judging panel.
“We are looking for innovative approaches to delivering key animal welfare issues that we encounter day to day.
“The aim of the competition is to encourage young people to be #AlwaysAnimalAware.
“The closing date for entries is 5 May and we look forward to viewing submissions soon.”

The competition gives schools the opportunity to engage their students in a creative and cross curricular activity with the opportunity to win prizes for both themselves and the school.

Judith Ralston said, “I’m honoured to have been asked to be on the judging panel of the Scottish SPCA school film competition.
“The Prevention through Education programme that the charity offers is incredible and teaches children from a young age that animals are sentient beings.
“We will be looking for entries that stand out and really promote a positive animal welfare message.”

Our charity partners, Scotmid, will be awarding the winning schools £100 worth of vouchers to spend in-store.

The winning film will be announced in June 2019 and will then be played across all social media channels, the  website and YouTube channel throughout the summer holidays.

The closing date for the school film competition is 5 May 2019.  Topics, terms and conditions and more information regarding the 2019 Schools Film Competition can be found on our website at scottishspca.org/education/.
