SOUTH SCOTLAND MSP LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR LOCAL HERO TO COME TO HOLYROOD

The search is on for a ‘Local Hero’ from the area to be a guest of South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth and the Scottish Parliament at the Parliament’s Opening Ceremony events on 2 July.

Each MSP is allowed to be accompanied by a ‘Local Hero’, so Colin Smyth is urging local people to nominate one by e mailing their choice to the MSP.

Colin Smyth MSP said, “I know that so many people from the local area give up their time selflessly to make a positive contribution to the lives of others – often without recognition.

“Together with the other MSPs, we want to celebrate the achievements of Local Heroes across every constituency and region in Scotland and bring them to Holyrood on Saturday 2 July for the Opening Ceremony of the new session of Parliament.

I would urge everyone to think about a local hero from their community and nominate them to attend what I am sure will be a memorial day.

The Local Heroes will be able to watch the Queen opening the new session of the Parliament, take part in the procession along the Royal Mile and then enjoy the ‘Big Day Out’ fun day.

I know a lot of people from the local area who  would make ideal Local Heroes, but I’m really local people to put forward to receiving nominations for our Local Hero perhaps from their friends, family or work colleagues, maybe even from potential Local Heroes themselves.  I’d urge anyone with a good suggestion to please get in touch”.

To nominate a local hero, people can e mail [email protected].
