Scotland’s Deputy First Minister John Swinney told Parliament that he still intends to chair a Transport Summit for Dumfries and Galloway.
Responding to South Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine’s push for more infrastructure investment in the region in her speech yesterday, Mr Swinney said he would make good on his promise to chair a summit, in spite of his move to the education brief.
And he joked that he would be keeping the new Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf in check.
Ms McAlpine has already written to Mr Yousaf outlining the background to the summit, which was a key element of her manifesto for Dumfriesshire.
The South Scotland MSP took the SNP to second place at the recent election, increasing her Party’s vote from 8,384 to 12,306 turning it into one of Scotland’s most marginal seats.
Commenting, Ms McAlpine said:
“I’m absolutely delighted with this news and it shows our Deputy First Minister’s continued commitment to the south of Scotland. I am also delighted that our youthful Transport Minister will attend, and I will be making sure he meets with the young people who have been campaigning for better transport links across the area.”
