POLICE Officers in Kirkcudbright are investigating the theft of three marine engines from boats in the town. Sometime overnight Sunday 15/Monday 16 April two outboard engines have been stolen from the premises of the Sailing Club in Castledykes Road. Another engine has been stolen sometime between Thursday 19 and Saturday 21 April, from a boat in the garden of a house which looks directly over the Kirkcudbright Sailing Club. The total value of the engines stolen is well into the thousands of pounds.
Constable Courtney Richards said “clearly the engines have been targeted for theft and these engines are not light, and would take some handling. Anyone who has been around the area of the sailing club over the past week is asked to consider whether they might have seen anything suspicious, or anything which might have seemed out of place for some reason. Anyone wishing to pass information on to us can do so though the 101 number, quoting the reference number PDG 00811404187
We are also taking this opportunity to remind those who have boats, engines or other property in the area to consider the security of their property in the light of these recent crimes. Likewise if they haven’t been along recently to the yard then to consider a visit to ensure all is well with their property. Police Scotland offer free crime prevention advice and anyone who wishes a crime prevention survey should contact their local Crime Reduction Officer through the 101 number.”
