Two Men Seriously Assaulted In Separate Incidents – Moffat

Police in Dumfries are appealing for information after two men were assaulted in separate incidents in Moffat this weekend.

The first incident occurred around 23.30 hrs last night, Saturday 23 December 2017. A 23-year-old man was driving a silver Honda car along Academy Road, Moffat when he stopped his car to speak to someone in the street. He soon realised that this was not the person he thought it was and he was attacked by three men who punched and kicked him whilst he was within his car.
The injured driver was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he is currently being treated for facial injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

The three suspects who were last seen running towards Grange Road, Moffat are described as:

1/ white, 6ft, 20’s, thin build with thin, sharp facial features and wearing light coloured trousers.
2/ white, 20’s, stalky build wearing a Xmas jumper.
3/ white, 6ft and in his 20’s.

The second incident occurred around 01.30 hrs this morning, Sunday 24 December 2017 when police were called to a disturbance involving around five or six people. On arrival they discovered a 30-year-old man with serious injuries. The injured man was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary by ambulance and he is currently being treated for lacerations to his body. Hospital staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

Detective Inspector Robin Ferguson at Dumfries CID said:

Although these incidents are two hours apart we believe that they may be connected and it is vital that we catch the people responsible for such violence.
“Both Academy Road and High Street were busy at the time the assaults took place and I urge anyone who witnessed either incident to contact police immediately via telephone number 101. Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where anonymity can be maintained.”
