Fear Grows for Welfare of Vulnerable Missing Man – Dumfries

Appeal for information – Vulnerable Missing Man – Dumfries

Police Scotland is appealing for information and continuing enquiries after a 57 year-old man from Dumfries was reported missing to officers on Saturday 9 July.

On the evening of Friday 8 July, Charles Mellor from College Street in Dumfries was fishing close to the Carnation Factory. He failed to return home and was reported missing to police in Dumfries by his family this morning.

He is described as a white man, around 5’10, medium build and with shaved black hair. He was last seen wearing a maroon hooded top and black Adidas jogging bottoms.

Inspector Wilson from Police Scotland said today: “It is unlike Charles to disappear without contacting his family. They are understandably very anxious at this time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to trace Charles safe and well. We are working with partners to search the area, including the water as a matter of course. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard have been assisting with the enquiry. Our officers are currently analysing any available CCTV, speaking with local residents and reaching out to nearby businesses in order to trace Charles as soon as possible.

“If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Charles, please contact officers based at Dumfries via 101.”
