Ward 14 at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary Remains Closed and Annan Hospital Expected to Re-open due to Gastroenteritis Outbreak

Full outbreak control measures continue to be implemented at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary due to norovirus.

Ward 14 remains closed to admissions, transfers and routine visiting due to norovirus. There have been no new cases since Friday.  Annan Hospital is expected to re-open today following a deep clean.

Elaine Ross, Infection Control Manager:

“This is a highly infectious  virus and at this time of year there are more opportunities for it to spread as people spend time indoors and attend social occasions where finger foods are often served.  It is particularly important to pay attention to hand hygiene, preferably using soap and water.

“Anyone who has experienced the virus is advised to remain at home for at least 48 hours following their last symptom as per NHS Scotland advice”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank visitors and staff for their ongoing support and understanding in helping to reduce the spread of the infection”
