Top Award For Warmer Homes Project

Dumfries and Galloway Council constantly strives to meet one of our top priorities which is to ‘protect our most vulnerable people. One of the ways they are doing this is by working in partnership with the Energy Agency to deliver energy efficiency measures and improvements to homes in our region. This is known as the Home Energy Efficiency Programme Scotland: Area Based Scheme (HEEPS-ABS). In our region this is predominantly in the form of solid wall insulation.

This scheme helps to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions while improving property standards. The current approach targets around £2million in funding annually to those most in need, focussing on our most deprived areas in Dumfries and Galloway.

At the recent National Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards, the Energy Agency won the Project Management Company of the Year for 2017, highlighting the good work being delivered in our region. The ceremony was held at the Birmingham NEC and the Energy Agency was presented with the award by Sir Lenny Henry.

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee Chair, Andy Ferguson said: “This award is great news, and I’d like to congratulate our partners, the Energy Agency, on their achievement. This highlights that our partnership is not only delivering successfully but is also being recognised at a national level. “
Vice Chair of the Committee, John Martin went on to say: “We have always found the Energy Agency to be a great organisation to work with, with high levels of customer satisfaction throughout our region. I am very pleased to hear that our joint efforts are ensuring that fewer people in our region have to suffer by living in cold homes or endure the experience of fuel poverty.”
