Elite Falconry, which gave a display in the main arena during the premier country event, arranged for the eagle to take flight from the roof of Drumlanrig Castle wearing a tiny camera on the evening of Saturday 22 August.

And the stunning bird of prey, which has an impressive 7ft 8in wingspan, captured spectacular images of the Fair as well as the Castle itself.

CH1_1335Organisers of the Fair on August 22 and 23 say it attracted 20,000 people – up 11 per cent on last year – with glorious sunshine bringing a record crowd of 11,000 on the Sunday.

The event’s official charity partner Poppy Scotland confirmed it raised a total of £1,170 over the weekend raised through bucket collections, as well as 20 per cent of the money generated from programme sales.

To mark the Year of Food and Drink Scotland, the event’s food marquee had grown considerably in size, while Castle Douglas firm Glen Urr proved particularly popular with the haggis ice cream it created especially for the fair.

Other highlights include an array of entertainment in the main arena including a display from Elite Falconry; a fun duck-herding display from the Dog and Duck Show; as well as an educational and fun demonstration from The Sheep Show.

The event also featured children’s entertainment, cookery demonstrations, an impressive craft marquee, fishing and clay shooting competition, a scurry and much more.
