Winner of Christmas Card Competition Announced

Ann Jack, wife of local MP Alister Jack, presented the winner of the Dumfries and Galloway MP’s inaugural ‘design my Christmas card competition’ with their prize last week.

The winning design came from Aslan Akarsu, a pupil at Kirkinner Primary School in the Machars.

Mrs Jack presented Aslan with a gift voucher and 10 copies of Mr Jack’s official Christmas card with his winning artwork printed on the front.  As well as congratulating Aslan, Mrs Jack also thanked the pupils at Kirkinner Primary School for their entries and presented them with a certificate to recognise their participation in the competition.

The runners up were Jemma Geddes from Calside Primary School and Annabel Haley from Creetown Primary School, and each will receive a gift voucher and 5 copies of the MP’s official Christmas card.

Speaking after the presentation Mrs Jack said, “We received over 400 entries from 21 schools across Dumfries and Galloway to the Christmas card competition.
“The standard was exceptionally high, making the job of choosing a winner and runners up extremely difficult.
“However, presenting Aslan with his prize last week and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm on the children’s faces made it all worthwhile.
“As well as congratulating Aslan, Jemma and Annabel, Alister and I would like to thank all the children who took part, and give a special mention to the teachers who allocated the time for their pupils to come up with such imaginative designs.
“It is a real honour for Aslan to have his design on Alister’s first official MP Christmas card, which will be sent to a large list of people including the Prime Minister, and we both hope that he enjoys spending his prize.
“We would also like to thank Heathhall Business Centre for their very generous sponsorship of the competition.”
