WRITS FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION ARRIVE IN DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Returning Officer, Alex Haswell, has received official notification of the general election on Tuesday 31 March. The parliamentary writs were hand delivered by Royal Mail this morning (Tuesday 31 March) for the Dumfries and Galloway and Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale constituencies.

The writs are issued, after the dissolution of Parliament, by the Clerk of the Crown to each constituency calling for a general election to take place. The Returning Officer, Alex Haswell has now received the writs. Alex has the responsibility of managing the election process in both constituencies and declaring the result following the count on 8 May and returning the writs to the Clerk of the Crown.

Alex Haswell said: “I am pleased to have received the writs which mark the formal start of the election process in the two UK Parliamentary constituencies for which I am responsible. I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to exercise their democratic right by voting on 7 May.’’
