This pocket size 14th century religious book was made for the Cistercian or “white monks” of Sweetheart Abbey. Written by hand in black and red ink on 200 vellum leaves it is a rare survivor of the Scottish Reformation when many Catholic possessions were burned. It was in a private collection in 1715 and then disappeared for 300 years before appearing for auction in 2016. Liber sanctae Mariae de dulci corde is written on the first page.
