Of five brothers who signed up to fight in World War One only one survived, the other four were killed in separate battles in 1917. 2017 Foyer Exhibition - Until January 2018 Lieutenant-General Colin Mackenzie (1806 – 1881) was the son in law of Admiral John Douglas of Kinmount, near Annan in Dumfries and Galloway. His blood stained jacket was kept as a reminder of his lucky escape when he was attacked and almost died in India in 1855. An unusual concert of renaissance music which illustrates an imagined correspondence between lovers at the court of Mary, Queen of Scots in her years of exile and captivity. Music played on viols, many sizes of recorders, curtal and renaissance guitar, with songs sung in renaissance style. Although the programme is self-contained in content, it is the second half of the story, created in response to audience questions 'But what happened next ?' during the 2016 run of 'A Shadow Love'.
