Big DoG Children’s Book Festival Cancelled Due to Covid-19

The Big DoG children’s book festival in Dumfries has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

The event was due to take place at venues across Dumfries from 24-26 April, with most activities at the Peter Pan Moat Brae National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling.

The Wigtown Festival Company, which organises Big DoG, hopes the festival will be back in 2021.

In the meantime they are looking at whether they can offer some storytelling online so that children can still hear wonderful authors reading their books. Keep an eye on the @BigDogBookFestival Facebook page for details.

Anne Barclay, the festival’s Programme Director, said: “It’s very sad to have to call off an event like this, but the health and wellbeing of the children, their families, the authors, volunteers and staff have to come first.

“At the same time we want to continue firing young imaginations with great stories – something that could be all the more important as activities for children are going to be much more limited than usual. We are actively looking at ways we can do this online.”

Anyone who has booked Big DoG tickets will be offered a full refund.
