Kirkcudbright Hotel Rises From The Ashes To Win Local Award and Reach National Finals

When the Gordon House Hotel in Kirkcudbright experienced extensive fire damage in April 2016, the town’s folk feared for the future of the handsome Georgian house.

In stepped local couple, Andy and Audrey Kelly in 2018 who purchased the severely damaged hotel with the intention of renovating it to its former glory.

The hotel opened in August 2018, renamed The Garret. Despite having had no previous hospitality experience, their hotel was voted winner in the Best Licensed Premises category in Dumfries and Galloway at the Scottish Business Awards held in Dumfries recently.

The eight-bedroom hotel has a restaurant, café bar, and beer garden. They set
out with the aim of having something for everybody in their hotel which is family and pet-friendly.

The hotel situated in the historic High Street has been trading for just less than twelve months and they contribute their success to hard work, good staff and support from the local community and visitors to the town.

The hotel which rose Phoenix like from the ashes now goes on to compete in the National finals in Glasgow in September.
