Kirkcudbright Set To Cook Up A Storm This Weekend!

Foodies from across the south of Scotland are set to descend on the harbour town of Kirkcudbright this weekend for a two day celebration of local and artisan food and drink at Kirkcudbright Food Festival. Famous as Scotland’s Artists Town, Kirkcudbright is fast becoming a destination for quality local produce with one of the fastest growing farmers’ markets in Scotland taking place in the picture perfect harbour town each month.

Already well established as a chef-led food event, Kirkcudbright Food Festival is taking a new direction this year with a line up designed to put local food and drink in the spotlight, with an engaging and provocative programme of events, demonstrations and debates designed to give visitors and participants an opportunity to share their foodie passions.

Headline chef Nick Nairn will lead three inspiring cookery demonstrations alongside a tasty line up of foodie events and experiences. The events include how to cook the perfect steak with Barlochan Highland Beef, a cheesemaking demonstration with Barry Graham of Loch Arthur, the story of Incredible Edible with founder Pam Warhurst and a series of foraging walks led by renowned forager Monica Wilde. There will also be cake pop making workshops, an insight into farm diversification, the story behind local honey and a demonstration of deliciousness made from local free range milk.

More than fifty local and artisan food producers will be showcasing and selling their delicious produce, including artisan streetfood, native and rare breed meats and charcuterie, Scottish grown tea, sumptuous cakes, locally produced craft ales, wines and liqueurs, gluten free goodies, pies, pizzas, soups, sweeties, honey, jams and much, much more.

Organiser Niomi Brough said the new format of the food festival has been designed to give people a greater insight and appreciation of the quality of Dumfries and Galloway’s local food and drink.
“The producers are the star of Kirkcudbright Food Festival this year and we want to shine a spotlight on the sensational quality of food and drink produced in this part of Scotland. It’s easy for us to take for granted the wonderful quality of the food in Dumfries and Galloway, so our food festival this year is about taking a moment to appreciate the stories and the passion behind this wonderful food and drink.

“We’ve designed a programme that has something for everyone to enjoy, from cake pop making for kids, to steak and wine demos and pairings; from artisan cheese making to wild food foraging. Nature’s larder is bursting with quality in Dumfries and Galloway and the Kirkcudbright Food Festival is all about sharing, indulging and enjoying our rich food heritage.”

Kirkcudbright Food Festival takes place from 10am-5pm Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd October. Tickets for talks and demonstrations are available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/kirkcudbright
