Recognising there’s not a great deal of support on a day to day basis and a lack of help generally in the UK for autism sufferers and their families, they decided to do something about it. They set about organising The Family Festival.

Through the festival, they’re planning to raise funds for Scottish Autism and  The National Autistic Society for Scotland – two charities providing first class assistance not just for the individual, but also for their families.
The Family Festival (Family Fest) is Dumfries & Galloway’s newest family focused music festival. They’re aiming to cater for the very young to the very old, including people with disabilities. There will be a Main stage, DJ tent, Main Bar, Acoustic Stage, Amusement Area, Bouncy Castles, Craft Stalls, Food Stalls, Display Area, Shops, Merchandise Stalls, Charity Raffle, Children’s Entertainers and more.

Many local bands have already signed up to perform and the emphasis is on local. “There’s a wealth of musical talent in Dumfries & Galloway – we’re bringing them together for a festival everyone will love”, says Jim. “We’ve got a safe site with amazing views over the Solway and it’s just off the A75, so is very easy to get to”.

Some of the well-known local bands already signed are: Monkey Shoulder, Roadhouse Guns, Deadman’s Stand, Brian Easton, Bee plus Seven and The Sheepwagon. The event is also gathering national interest with bands like Shardlake from Glasgow and Ed Goodale from West Sussex amongst others travelling a distance to perform.

They and their team hope that thousands of people will become a part of Family Fest and support the event this year and for years to come, enjoying a great festival whilst also raising a hefty sum for autism charities.
Tickets are available online from familyfest.uk and will be available shortly from outlets around the region. plus you can Follow Family fest on  facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheFamilyFest
