Become a Ranger for a day at Drumlanrig

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is offering the perfect chance to fulfil those ever-popular New Year’s resolutions: to volunteer and learn new skills.

The Estate’s team of experienced Rangers has introduced volunteer days in response to huge demand from individuals wishing to learn the ropes on the country Estate.

The sessions, which run every second Wednesday from 10.30am until 2.30pm, give volunteer Rangers the chance to undertake a range of practical tasks, and to experience a day in the life of a Drumlanrig Ranger.

Activities are set in response to the demands of the season, but could include scrub removal, repairs around the Estate and also participating in larger planned projects like creating a new footpath or learning the art of dry stone dyking.

Not only will volunteers learn new skills, they’ll also experience the 90,000-acre Estate from a different perspective to most visitors – as well as working off the results of one too many mince pies over the festive period.

Richard Clarke, Countryside Ranger at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “We receive so many requests from people who want to come and help us and learn the ropes, so we’re delighted to introduce group volunteer day sessions. It means we can accommodate more people on a fortnightly basis.

“Myself and the rest of the Rangers immensely enjoy what we do, and are delighted to share our knowledge and love of the Estate with others who have an interest in the outdoors. It’s a great way to learn, and an ideal way to blow away some of the cobwebs following an indulgent festive period.”
