NHS Dumfries and Galloway is once again supporting Bike Week which this year takes place between Saturday 11 and Sunday 19 June. The focus of the 2016 campaign is a drive to get people out of their cars and into the saddle to pedal to work.
And as part of the campaign we are offering to hook novice cyclists up with buddies who can show them the best way to get to work while avoiding the traffic. Healthy Working Lives Advisor Richard Smith regularly cycles to work and has volunteered to be a buddy for anyone who needs a little bit of help to get them on the right road.
Richard said: “While everyone automatically knows the quickest way to get to work by car not everyone knows the best cycle routes and that’s where the buddies come in. We will meet up with people who are new to cycling or who haven’t cycled for a while and could use some advice on the best way to get to work.
“We’ll show them the best route to take and help them to build their confidence while they get used to their new mode of transport.”
If you would like a buddy for Bike Week please contact Richard by email at [email protected] or phone 01387 272 719.
In addition to the buddy scheme NHS Dumfries and Galloway is asking people to share photos or short videos of their favourite part of their journey to work on Facebook and Twitter under #BikeWeekUK. We life in a beautiful part of the world and we want to see what you see when you get on your bike to get to work.
