Devils Porridge Museum Prepares For Exciting New Exhibit

Something exciting is happening at The Devil’s Porridge Museum at Eastriggs Near Annan, Dumfries and Galloway this week but unfortunately it will mean that its doors have to close for a short while.  “We’re going to have a new display installed” explained Judith Hewitt, Museum Manager, “which will involve scaffolding, building and electrical work meaning that we won’t be able to open for four days.”

At the end of that time, the Museum will unveil an impressive new historic display – the Mossband Clock – which used to sit on top of Mossband House near Longtown.  “This building was the Central Headquarters of the original H M Factory Gretna which is the main focus of The Devil’s Porridge Museum” continued Judith.  “The clock was saved when the well-known building was demolished several years ago.”

Museum Chairman Richard Brodie commented, “Our heritage group tried so hard to save the hundred year plus building from demolition but now we are delighted to have restored all four faces of its imposing clock. We are looking forward to unveiling it soon as an impressive centrepiece in The Devil’s Porridge Museum.”

The Museum will be closed from November 2nd to November 5th inclusive but visitors can see Museum exhibitions at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village for the next few weeks.  “We’ve put up two of our displays in a vacant unit “said Judith “which will be open daily from 1-4pm.”  One display focuses on what happened at HM Factory Gretna on November 11th 1918 and the other display is all about Animals in War.  “We do hope people will drop in while they’re at the Gateway and come to see the revamped Mossband Clock at the Museum when it is installed.”
