Preparations are underway for the highly anticipated revival of the Castle Douglas Soap Box Derby, set to make its much-awaited return this Sunday, July 9th
Throngs of enthusiastic fans are expected to gather along King Street for the second instalment of this exhilarating race. Organizers express their appreciation for the support they have received from both the local community and beyond, without which the event would not be possible.
A significant improvement for this year’s race is the expansion of the ramp, which was deemed too small during the inaugural event.
The action is scheduled to commence at 1 pm on Sunday, allowing each participating team the opportunity to have two runs down King Street. To facilitate the event, a 4×4 vehicle provided by Paterson ATV in Dalbeattie will be utilized to tow the soapbox vehicles back up the street.
The defending champion, The Frothy Bike Co from Dumfries, will be back to defend their title against a field of 15 teams
For the convenience of spectators, a large screen will be positioned at the top of King Street, providing an ideal vantage point for spectators with prams to enjoy the action.
To further enhance the experience, a variety of food vendors and stalls will be present, including one operated by the race organizers. They will be selling lucky programs, with the owner of the winning number walking away with a £200 prize.
Additionally, attendees can participate in competitions, with young spectators invited to guess the name of a bear, while older individuals can try their luck guessing the identity of a celebrity.
The revival of the Castle Douglas Soap Box Derby promises an exciting day for all, attracting visitors to the area and boosting business in town.
