This summer youth work partners across Wigtownshire have pulled together a summer activities programme that will provide 10 days packed full of fun and interesting activities for young people aged 11 – 25yrs.
The programme, funded by the National Lottery’s Young Start Fund, offers a wide range of free activities and opportunities during the school summer holidays.
The programme will be delivered in partnership with young volunteers from Stranraer Academy and Douglas Ewart High School who have been working hard behind the scenes to get prepared for the events this summer.
Activities start on Wednesday 20 July and run morning, noon and night until Friday 29 July. The programme includes free swim vouchers in both the Ryan and Merrick Leisure Centre, a fun transition day for P7’s moving up to S1, Youth Drop-in’s, Outdoor Movie nights, Wigtownshire Master Chef, Safer Young Drivers and a Sports Fair.
As well as keeping our young people entertained and active, the programme also offers fun activities for young dads and male carers and their children to celebrate Scotland’s first Year of the Dad and Little Learner sessions for young parents and their children.
The full programme of activities will culminate in a 3 day residential camp in Port William that will be packed full of fun activities, events, teambuilding, training and workshops for young people across Dumfries and Galloway.
Councillor Tom McAughtrie, Chairman of Communities Committee said “one of our Council’s priorities is to give children in our region the best start in life. The events and activities that our services deliver during school holidays is just one of the ways we achieve this. These activities give young people confidence, they can learn new skills, meet new friends and try something new in a fun and safe environment. I am sure the activities will be as well attended as they have been in past years, and I hope that the young people in Wigtownshire find the activities fun, informative and social.”
