This weekend’s Galloway Country Fair proved a huge success with large crowds enjoying the return of the region’s annual celebration of rural and family life.
Around 10,000 visitors watched events in the main arena including falconry, dog shows, motorbike displays and even raced the sheep taking part in the Lamb National.
Elsewhere they were able to watch demonstrations of pig agility in The Hogg Show, show off the skills of their working dogs in agility and obedience competitions, win £1,000 of cash prizes in the clay pigeon shooting or try their hands at fly fishing.
Younger visitors found there was lots to keep the entertained in the Kids’ Zone, while grown-ups were able to browse stalls selling everything from arts, crafts and clothes to cheeses, artisan bread, beers, spirits and cheesecakes.
There were also cookery and cocktail making demonstrations and much more besides.
And this year, for the first time, Galloway Country Fair hosted DefenderJam, the annual get-together for Land Rover owners.
Anna Fergusson, Drumlanrig Estate Manager, said: “It was a fabulous weekend and it was great to be back after COVID.
“After not being able to hold the show for the past three years we didn’t know whether people would be ready to return.
“So it was lovely to see so many people seizing the chance to come together and celebrate the best of rural and family living.
“We’d really like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who made it possible – the visitors, the stall holders, exhibitors, the people who put on the displays and our sponsors.”
Catering stands served everything from specialty burgers to delicious donuts and fine coffees.
