Wrap the Toon this Christmas!

‘Wrap the Toon’ invites people to submit their own wrapping paper design to help deck Dumfries with colour and pattern this festive season.

D-LUX, organisers of the annual January ‘Festival of Lights’, is set to make a return to the town centre this month with eye-catching Christmas projections in windows around Dumfries High Street.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, D-LUX won’t be offering its usual 3-day multi-venue festival at the end of January, but instead is running four different projects in and around the Town Centre over coming months.

‘Wrap the Toon’ is the first of these, taking place from 11th to 21st December, dark until late. Sites will come and go over the ten-day period, so organisers warn not to expect to see everything on one night.

Creative Director Robbie Coleman commented: “We wanted to bring some fun and creativity onto the High Street this festive season and involve as many local people as possible. Send us a picture or a scan of your design and we’ll project it around the High Street for everyone to enjoy.”

Entrants also have the chance to win their own design as a pack of real wrapping paper.

“Anyone can take part and you can use anything you like – coloured paper, card, paint, old crisp packets,” says Sal Cuddihy, Events & Public Engagement, “or you could take picture of a pattern you see out and about, like car lights on wet roads or a stripey sunset.  The thing is to make it as bold and colourful as possible.”

Head to www.d-lux.org.uk for tips and ideas and to upload your work, then take a stroll around Dumfries High Street between 11th and 21st to see your design projected into windows spaces and inside shops.

D-LUX is supported by The People’s Project, The Holywood Trust, Dumfries & Galloway Council and SP Energy Networks.
