Dumfries & Galloway Council Launch Children’s Summer Activities Programme

Council Activities to keep the kids entertained this summer

Dumfries and Galloway Council have a range of activities planned for this Summer, with something available to keep children from 1-16 years old entertained.
We’ve got area based Leisure and Sport activities taking place in Wigtownshire, Stewartry, Nithsdale and Annandale and Eskdale throughout July and August. There are opportunities for you to try your hand at new and less common sports such as Sailing, Frisbee and Baton Twirling as well as the traditional Football, Rugby and Golf camps that run all over the region. All our activities are delivered by top quality coaches and are run in a fun, safe environment.

If Sports isn’t your thing then we have Summer Reading Challenges taking place in our libraries across Dumfries and Galloway. Children (and parents/guardians!) are encouraged to read throughout the Summer to let their imaginations run wild with our thousands of story books or learn facts about their favourite place, animal or hobby in our non-fiction sections in all our libraries.

Our Council also has various activities available at our Council run museums throughout the holiday period. In Stranraer you can turn into a pirate for the day and build a treasure chest, whilst in the Stewartry you can learn all about the Egyptians. There’s also activities taking place in our other museums across the region.

Chairman of the Council’s Community and Customer Services, Tom McAughtrie said; “Our Council is committed to providing the best start in life for our children and the activities we’ve got on offer throughout the summer help us achieve this. There’s a range of sports, arts and cultural activities for children of all ages to enjoy this Summer. I would encourage everyone to get out and try at least one of the excellent choice of activities that’s on offer to them. The activities are affordable and offer children a fun and safe environment to keep active, challenge themselves and learn new skills.”
