Stranraer’s Castle Kennedy Gardens Are All Set For Summer 2015

School’s out and Summer is in full swing at Castle Kennedy Gardens with new and popular activities as well as open air theatre for all the family!

This Summer is packed full of activities at Castle Kennedy Gardens with fun for all to be enjoyed including new Garden Ranger activities for 2015 and this year’s open air theatre productions.

Castle Kennedy Gardens is holding several events, organised and led by their Garden Rangers and Head Gardener, over the summer holidays to encourage more visits to one1 a 1 a inch 2 of Scotland’s most magnificent gardens.

The Garden’s Tea Room will also offer visitors a different menu each week over the summer months and visitors are welcome to picnic in the Gardens alternatively.

‘What’s In A Name?’ is a guided walk on Wednesday 8 July, led by the Head Gardener, which will offer fascinating insights about the plants to be found in the Gardens and answer questions such as how the Monkey Puzzle Tree get its name.

On Wednesday 15 July, children are invited to take part in an exploration of one of the Garden’s most popular activities – pond dipping – where families are helped by the Garden Ranger to discover the many weird and wonderful creatures, including huge rare newts, living in and around the two acre Round Pond.

1 a 1 a inchThe first of two fantastic open-air theatre performances, ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ performed by Illyria, will take place on the early evening of Tuesday 21 July and will feature a spectacular set, special effects and eye-popping illusions by the world famous Illusionist Paul Daniels. The show features a huge amount of water and children are dared to sit in the Splash Zone!

The next performance – The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes – produced by Chapterhouse on Thursday 6 August, will wrap the audience up in a new case to be solved by Sherlock and Dr Watson who join the search for the most elusive treasure known to mankind.

 

 

New events this year include plant propagation introduced to visitors on Wednesday 22 July, where keen gardeners can watch demonstrations of how to take plant cuttings to grow their own and the first of Painting with Earth sessions will debut on Wednesday 5 August where the Garden Ranger will encourage families to try out different ways of using natural materials to create some modern day earth art.

Adding to the fun packed activities calendar kids can Build A Bird Feeder on Wednesday 29 July get dirty with Mud Faces on Wednesday 5 August build tepees and dens on 1 a 1 a inch 312 August. Activities continue into September and right through until the end of October with all details to be found on www.castlekennedygardens.com

All Ranger activities begin at Castle Kennedy Ruins with Ranger activity sessions running from 11:00am – 12:30pm & 2:00pm – 3.30pm and included in the admission cost. Guided Walks run from 2.00pm -3.30pm and cost £2 plus admission, offering participants a hot drink and delicious slice of homemade cake. Outdoor clothing is recommended, children must be accompanied by an adult and visitors are welcome to attend one or both sessions.
