17,000 GUINEAS FOR TOP LUING AT ANNUAL WALLETS MARTS SHOW & SALE

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged the 51st Annual Premier Show and Sale of Luing Cattle on behalf of the Luing Cattle Society. With a catalogue entry of 241 cattle from breeders throughout the UK this event attracted a massive crowd of bidders from as far afield as Orkney to Cornwall to Wales and to Northern Ireland.

As witnessed atother pedigree sales this year political delay in paying out SFP claims led to a cautious approach bymany but despitethis buyers were willing to pay good money for quality lots forward. Topping the sale at 17,000 guineas was lotnumber 223, Harehead Savivatu – an April 2014 bull from Prof WA Penny, Harehead Farm, Cranshaws, Duns.Out of a homebred cow and sired by Finlarg Nero, Savivatuwas purchased by Mr Phillip Simmers of Backmuir Livestock,Keith. Next up at 11,000 guineas was Finlarg Senator – a May 2014 bull from Robert and Hazel McNee, Tealing,selling to Messrs JC & JS Helme, Haltree, Hawick.Phillip Simmers was back in the bull action again when he paid

7,500 guineas for Finlarg Scorpio from Robert and Hazel McNee. With 27 Bulls offered for sale 23 soldto average£4841.41.
Good well grown females sold well to top at 2800 guineas for a pair of March calving heifers from C M Symons Ltd,Attonburn and selling to Mr N Campbell, Currburn. Attonburn and Benhar were next top at 2400 guineas jointly for another two pairs of in-calf heifers. A greatly increased show of in-calf heifers saw 53 sell to average £1917.74.
Harehead Farms led the way in the bulling heifer section when their pen of four sold for 1750 guineasto Phillip Simmers as well as a single selling at the same money to Pat Lambert of CG Greig Farms Ltd, Pitlochie, Gateside. 111 Bulling Heifers sold to average £1240.61.
