Noted Line Up Of Entries From South West Scotland To Compete In The 2024 Borderway Uk Dairy Expo

Showcasing some of the world’s finest dairy genetics and new technology, Harrison & Hetherington welcome all sectors of the worldwide dairy industry to Borderway UK Dairy Expo 2024 in Carlisle.

On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th March 2024, more than 7,000 farmers, traders, and industry experts will come together at Borderway, Carlisle to help make the 2024 Borderway UK Dairy Expo a world class, multi-national showcase for the best the British dairy industry has to offer. This year’s showcase offers visitors a record entry of over 460 dairy cattle boasting some of the world’s top genetics from seven different breeds. With entries from South West Scotland including Nethervalley Holsteins & Salvador Esquierdo from Shacklehill Farm, Mossblown, Ayr; Grayridge & Vetech Holsteins from Drumstall Farm, East Kilbride; and T Lochead & Sons from Mouswald showing Brown Swiss.

Borderway Dairy Expo provides a unique platform for the demonstration of the latest technology and innovation, networking and sharing ideas that will help this vital industry continue to forge a sustainable and economically viable future. And this year, the spotlight will be very much on the young and upcoming generation of dairy breeders and farmers whose commitment and dedication will carry the industry forward.

UK Dairy Expo Event Organiser, Glyn Lucas, believes that the success of Borderway UK Dairy Expo is a vital demonstration of the health and dynamism of British dairy farming. “The continuing development of our dairy industry is absolutely crucial to the supply of the highest quality dairy produce for UK consumers. And, we are absolutely delighted to be able to give our industry a

globally respected stage to show their wonderful cattle and the advances that are being made in technology and systems that are helping our farmers to futureproof their enterprises and build a successful future.

“Our line-up of international judges this year reinforces the status of the event, and we are incredibly grateful to our judges for travelling round the world to take on the daunting task of picking our show winners from the formidable line-up of such outstanding livestock, and from the next generation of dairy farmers who will be competing for honours this year.”

The global panel of expert judges separating the best from the very best in the wider schedule of show classes including Australia’s internationally respected Brown Swiss breeder and show winner, Ben Govett, will judge the Holstein, Brown Swiss, and Dairy Shorthorn classes. Australian Jersey dairy farmer Daniel Bacon will also bring all his southern hemisphere experience and skills north to judge the Jersey, Red & White, and Ayrshire classes. Holstein Master Breeder John Cousar will make the comparatively short journey south from Ayrshire to judge the British Friesian classes, and Wisconsin based genetics expert Roger Turner will cross the Atlantic from the USA to judge the International Showmanship classes.

As well as attracting thousands of competitors, trade representatives, farmers and breeders from all over the UK and Ireland, with world class industry experts Graham Kirkby, Richard Bostock and Allan Timbrell returning this year as livestream commentators, Borderway UK Dairy Expo is once again expected to attract a global audience from as far away as the United States, Australia, New Zealand and beyond!

Now established as a leading industry stage for networking, UK Dairy Expo 2024 will include a trade exhibition with some 100 organisations sharing the latest industry trends, research, ideas and developments, providing visitors with a comprehensive shop window for the exchange of advice, information, contacts and knowledge.

Always passionate about supporting and encouraging the next generation, Harrison & Hetherington have specifically tailored classes for young people. Many begin competing and showing cattle in top level dairy events at a young age, and the aim of the Showmanship Championship is to recognise their commitment and dedication, and to offer them the guidance and encouragement of some of

the best in the business. The Rising Star Award sponsored by Toi Toi will recognise the knowledge, work ethic and sportsmanship of an outstanding young person in dairy farming.

Borderway UK Dairy Expo is also an opportunity to celebrate the success of those who have dedicated a lifetime’s work to the industry. The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award

recognises a dairy cattle breeder or exhibitor judged to be a high achiever and excellent role model within the industry.

Glyn Lucas also offers immense gratitude for the support of all those who make Borderway UK Dairy Expo a showcase of British excellence for the dairy industry. “We would like to thank our mainline sponsors, Carr’s Billington, Cattle Information Service, Holstein UK and HSBC for their crucial support, not only for this event but for the sector as a whole.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of our trade exhibitors, the Breed Societies, the industry experts and of course the judges whose standing and reputation commands so much respect at the highest levels within the dairy arena worldwide.
“Of course most importantly, we thank the breeders and farmers of all ages who bring their magnificent cattle to Borderway from the four corners of the UK. They prove without any doubt that the future of the dairy industry is bright and the opportunities are huge.
“Our industry offers global solutions to many of the current issues that face our planet such as climate change, nutrition and food security. UK Dairy Expo is where the dairy industry meets and where the future of our industry is shaped, and we look forward to welcoming you all to the Borderway Exhibition Centre on the 15th and 16th of March.”
