BREED RECORD’S WELL AND TRULY BROKEN AT CASTLE DOUGLAS SALERS SALE 7/11/15

SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2014
24TH ANNUAL PREMIER SHOW & SALE OF SALERS CATTLE

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited staged the 24th Annual Show and Sale of Commercial and Pedigree Salers Cattle at Castle Douglas on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November 2015. With a total of 241 head of cattle presented a remarkable clearance of 99.6% was achieved with only one heifer passing through unsold.

Breed records were well and truly broken at the sale when Lot No 27 Cumbrian Capermello a July 2013 bull from Farmstock Genetics sold for 10,000 guineas to PM & SM Donger, Seawell Grands, Towcester. Next up at 8500 guineas was the male champion and overall champion Drumaglea Granville from Mr E A Elliot, 11 Lough road, Drumlegagh, Co Tyrone and selling to Messrs Jones Wales. Pedigree females also cashed in at good rates selling to 4,200 guineas for the Champion heifer Cuil Goldie from breed stalwart Graham McClymont, Cuil Newton Stewart. Cuil Goldie now heads to a new home with Fred Robinson at Highfields Farm, Church Preen. Next at 3,000 guineas was another Cuil heifer Cuil Goose which sold to Messrs Simmons, Romansleigh.

The commercial section witnessed probably one of the best quality shows to be seen at this centre which reflected in the buoyant trade throughout. Against a backdrop pf falling prices these heifers bucked the trend selling way ahead of buyers expectations. In-Calf heifers topped at £1700 off Swinleas whilst maiden heifers sold to £1600 for the Champion pen of 5 from Cuil followed at £1520 for the Reserve Champion pen of 6 from Mains of Penninghame. Two features of this section was the run of 64 heifers from Mains of Penninghmae which averaged £1271.41 and 53 heifers from Cuil which averaged £1294.72.
