STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of Store and OTM Cattle on Monday 20^th June 2016.

A good quality show of beef cows met with a buoyant trade throughout and many more could have been easily sold.  Topping the sale at 145p per kg or £1172.60 was a Simmental cross cow from A Lindsay & Co, Culnaightrie.  Next at 138p was a Simmental from Hillhead, Auldgirth and 137p for an Aberdeen Angus from Culnaightrie.  Overall average levelled at 124.84p per kg or £796.18 per head.

A small offering of Store Cattle sold to £1000 for Aberdeen Angus crosses from Low Mains, Whithorn and to 247.1p for Simmental crosses from Graplin Farms.  Bullocks averaged at 221.9p per kg.

PRIME LAMBS SHALL COMMENCE AT 10.30 PROMPT.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 761 prime lambs, hoggs and cast sheep on Tuesday 21^st June 2016.

647 Prime lambs sold to average 185.35 SQQ.  All classes were sharper on the week.

Lambs sold to a top of £91 x 2 firstly from Mr D Smith, Ingleston, Gelston, secondly from Messrs Struthers, High Currochtrie, Drummore both for pens of Texels.  Top price per kilo was 203p for Texels from Messrs Millar, Glensone.

Cast sheep were a two tier trade with overfat severely discounted with leaner meated ewes looking dearer on the week to £124 for Suffolk rams from Garrarie.
