Champion Beltie Bull Makes 6000 gns at Wallets Marts

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their annual autumn show and sale of Pedigree Belted and White Galloway Cattle on Friday 26th October.

A large ringside of breed stalwarts and prospective purchasers were in attendance and despite prices easing back on the year most sellers were delighted with the realistic trade which prevailed.

At the pre-sale show the judge Mr George Somerville from Dumfries, found his Champion Bull in the form of Lot 68, Lomond Tamnavulin, a 21 month old Speddoch Rocky Sired Bull from Mr D Maxwell, Blairvockie, Drymen.

Tamnavulin went on to make the top price at the sale of 6000 gns selling to Hedgely Farms. Reserve Champion Male was Whitestonehill King Thistle, a two year old son of Lomond Tobermory, consigned by the Ward family and later selling for 3000 gns to Mr Saeltzer, Germany. Other top prices in the bull section included 4500 gns paid to GB Milroy, Mains of Machermore for their 18 mo Lipwood Machermore which sold to Glen Farming Co.

Champion Female was Lot 4 Gruige Holly – a 30 m.o In-Calf Heifer from Mr Dessy Henry, Northern Ireland. Holly went on to sell for top priced female of 3000 gns. Reserve Champion Female was Cairnsmore Kacey Johan from B & J Landers & Son, which passed through the sale ring unsold.
