Expectations Exceeded at Wallets Marts Store Sale 23/5/16

OTM & STORE CATTLE SALE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of OTM, Store and Breeding Cattle on Monday 23rd May 2016.

 

Trade for all classes of stock well exceeded both sellers and buyers expectations at all levels.

 

A smaller show of 98 Store Cattle sold to a full ringside of bidders.  Topping the sale at £1090 were a pen of Charolais bullocks from J & W Wilson, Kirkmabreck, Creetown and selling to J A Fingland, Garmartin.  Top price per kg was 294.6p paid for a pen of British Blue bullocks from Garpel Farms, Cumnock.  The bullock average levelled at 230.53p per kg.  The heifer section was topped at £1010 per head for Simmental Crosses from R Watson, Slatehouse and to 243.6p for Charolais crosses from T & J A Edgar, Newfield, Dalry.  Heifers averaged 208.05p per kg.

 

A feature of the sale was the reduction sale of beef suckler cows and calves from JJ & I Baird, Potterland.  The spring calving cows and calves were shown in tremendous fettle and were a great credit to the Baird Family.  Topping the sale at £1850 was an Aberdeen Angus cross sow with a Simmental Bull calf at foot selling to Messrs Borland, Castlehill.  35 cows and calves averaged £1360.

 

An increased number of 51 OTM Cattle met with a fast selling trade for all classes.  Topping at £1276.50 or 111p was a Charolais bull from Gelston Castle Farms.  Cows sold to £1045.20 or 134p per kg for a British Blue from Trolane and to 143p per kg for a Simmental cross from Hillside.  Overage clean cattle topped at £865.20 or 140p for a heifer from Craigton.  OTM average levelled at 116.27p per kg.

WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE

 

 

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 466 Prime and Cast sheep on Tuesday 24th May 2016.

 

56 Prime lambs forward were mainly heavies and sold similar to Monday’s trade, averaging 184ppkg.  They sold to a top of £90 for heavyweight Suffolks from Messrs Sloan, Mull of Galloway.

 

There was an end of season show of 240 hoggs with well fleshed hoggs scarce. They sold to £76 for Texels from Messrs Thomson, Nether Corsock.

 

170 Cast sheep sold slightly less with a lighter show forward to a top pf £100 for Texels from Farrhills.
