£5000 For Limousin Bull, Top Price at Wallets Marts Breeding Sale 9/5/2016

OTM & STORE CATTLE SALE

 

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their fortnightly sale of store cattle and cast cows, along with the annual spring sale of Breeding Cattle.

 

At the annual Spring sale of Breeding cattle Bulls were shown in fine form but buyers continue to be cautious.  Top price today was £5000 for an outstanding 28 month old Limousin from T B Hansell & Co, Nether Barr selling to Messrs Oliver, Caulfields, Haltwhistle.

 

Heifers with calves sold exceptionally well with all the regular consignments being rewarded for a fine show of heifers.  Top today was for a ¾ bred Limousin heifer with limousin bull calf selling at £2400 from Michael Burns, Glenside, Kirkmichael, closely followed at £2200 for a limousin heifer with Limousin bull calf from Messrs Fisher, Flathill, Dundrennan.  £2150 twice first for a limousin heifer with bull calf from Messrs Fingland, Garmartin, Kirkpatrick Durham.  Also for a Limousin heifer and limousin heifer calf from Messrs White, Hightae, Castle Douglas.  Overall heifers with calves at foot  averaged was £1816. Bulling heifers sold to a top of £1180 for Limousins from Messrs Marshall, Auchenleck to W McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Shawhead.  Bulling heifers averaged £917.

 

A smaller show of 96 store cattle sold extremely well to a large ringside of buyers with grazing cattle in particular looking sharper as the good weather sees the grass improve.

 

Top price today was £1105 for a British Blue steer from Messrs Wright, Risk, Bridge of Dee.  Heifers peaked at £1065 for Simmentals from Messrs McWhirter, Kenmuir, Kirkcowan.  Top price per kilo was 271.4p for Limousin steers from Messrs Templeton, Burn Cottage, Southwick.

 

Averages on the day were 232ppkg or £841 per head for the steers and 207ppkg or £827 per head for heifers.

 

42 OTMS sold to an increasing trade with grazing and fleshy cows showing a rise.  Top per head today was for a Simmental from Low Arkland at £1037.  Top per kilo cow was a Limousin at 140ppkg from Finniness with heifers peaking a 157 for an Angus from Irelandton.
