The Great Corsock Show Returned With A Bang… and Then A Flap Of Wings…

Saturday 27th August saw the return of the Great Corsock Show after a pandemic-induced absence. More than 300 entries were submitted across the 50 categories, rekindling lots of good-natured competitive rivalry. The day included the always popular barbecue, bottle stall and raffle, also joined this year by a Pigeon race!

The show was opened to the public at 1pm, with the ribbon cut by one of the show’s original founders, Linda Corsan. Visitors were welcome to tour the categories and take part in the bottle stall and enjoy some home baking. At 2.30, the cups and prizes were awarded, the remaining produce was sold off and then the auction took place.

Highlights included the sale of a show-stopping winning entry in the Judges’ decorated cake’ category, a glorious fairy-tale castle, worthy of the Great British Bake Off.

McNabb Laurie, a member of the organising committee, said:

“The committee’s single aim this year was to try to relaunch the show after the pandemic. We knew there was local support, but we never expected we’d get more than 300 entries, or that the day would include so many activities. It really felt like this was the whole village’s show and can’t believe how well it went.
There are too many people to thank, but we are particularly grateful to everyone who has attended planning meetings or delivered leaflets, the volunteers in the cafe, the Pringles for the Barbecue, Jip Phillips for the Pigeon Race, Linda Corsan for officiating on the day and show stalwarts Josie Neilson, Tina Sanilands and Ian & Judi Shaw for keeping things in line throughout, and their work in previous years. Many thanks also to the Corsock Hall Committee and the Corsock & KPD Community Council for their support.”
