OTM & STORE CATTLE SALE
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 381 Store Cattle and 27 OTM Cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday 28th March 2015.
Despite there being a plainer quality show of store cattle forward with more stronger ones through them trade held up remarkably well with average prices well ahead of other local markets.
Topping the sale at £1360 or 263.6p per kg was a pen of Limousin cross heifers from RJ & D Skimming, Glenhowl. Scaling 516kg they sold to Barlure Farmers, New Luce. Top price per head in the bullock section was £1170 paid to James Mitchell & Son, Little Larg, New Luce for a pen of Limousins selling to J Maxwell & Son, Halket Leaths, Castle Douglas. Top price per kg for bullocks was 269.2p for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from R G Armstrong & Co, Langbarns.
Overall averages levelled at 224.7p or £909.19 for the bullocks and 206.2p or £861.38 for the heifers.
In the OTM ring buyers witnessed one of the best shows of cows to be seen anywhere which reflected in an overall average price of 115.8p per kg or £815.36 being achieved. Topping the sale at £1111.42 was a Limousin X cow from Culnaightrie who also sold the top price per kg of 128p for another Limousin cross.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 921 Prime hoggs and cast sheep on Tuesday 29th March 2016.
802 Prime hoggs sold to average 181.75p per kg. SQQ 183.16. Hoggs were sharper today, especially well fleshed hoggs with plainer hoggs no difference. Top today was £96 for heavyweight Texels from Glenlee Farms. Top price per kilo was 243.2p per kg for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Gray, Eastfield, Symington.
Cast sheep sold to a top of £120 for a BFL Ram from Mackilston, Dalry with Ewes to £98 for a Texel from West Barmoffity. Greyfaces to £83 from Langbarns and Blackfaces to £73 from Rainton.
