WALLETS MARTS SALES REPORTS 26&27/10/2015

WALLETS MARTS CASTLE DOUGLAS LIMITED
MONDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2015
STORE CATTLE AND OTM CATTLE

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 237 Store Cattle, 323 Store sheep and 78 OTM cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday 26th October.

Store Cattle were a plainer quality show and proved harder to cash as buyers began to get filled up over recent sales. Contrary to this suckled calves were very dear and well short of buyers requirements. Topping the store section at £1110 were a pair of Limousin cross bullocks from M S Taylor & Son, Edingham whilst a pen of Charolais heifers from Straith Estates topped their section at £1090. In the suckled calf section prices topped at £770 and 277p per kg for a pen of Charolais cross bullocks from T & J A Edgar, Newfield. Next at £730 were Charolais crosses from Shirmers. A pen of Charolais cross heifers from Shirmers were top price per head and per kg at £635 and 238.7p respectively.

In the OTM ring a larger show of 78 cattle easily maintained recent rates with fleshy cows being more easily cashed. Topping the cows at 138p per kg was a Limousin cross from Balcraig Moor Farming Co. Top price per head was £1062.60 paid to Messrs Farries Castlegower for a Charolais. Heifers sold to 156p twice for AA Crosses from Balcraig Moor Farming Co whilst bulls from the same home sold to 80p per kg.

WALLETS MARTS CASTLE DOUGLAS LIMITED
TUESDAY 27th OCTOBER 2015
WEEKLY PRIMESTOCK SALE

From the 1st January 2015 sheep from the historic flock should be retagged prior to moving to market.
These older animals will have previously received non-electronic tags if born prior to 2010. To meet the current requirements they should be double tagged, one of which must be an electronic (EID) tag.

Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 2264 prime lambs and cast sheep on Tuesday 27th October.

1644 prime lambs sold to average 134.06p per kg (SQQ 137.85p). All classes of lambs were less on the week due to an abundance of heavy and fat lambs up and down the country. Export weights sold the easiest and were short of requirements.

Top price today was £70 (x4) first for Suffolks from Kirkbride, Auldgirth, Texels from Messrs Ross Romesbeoch, Beltex from Lagganpark, Moniaive and also from Balgerran, Crossmichael which were also top price per kg at 170.7p

620 Cast sheep sold similar on the week with ewes peaking at £93 for Texels from Balgerran and Blackfaces to £48 from Mossyard.

Belly clipping is just around the corner. To halt the need for it in this Mart for as long as possible could all vendors please present lambs as clean as possible, especially the tails. There are still a few sheep each week with excessive dirt. Your co-operation in this matter would be very much appreciated.
