Wallets Marts Castle Douglas on Saturday 28th August 2021 held their annual sale of Scotch Mule gimmers and store lambs with a total of 4234 sheep forward
At our annual show we must thank Mr Sowerby, Sycamore Rise, Appleby for judging and also to sponsors Solway Agriculture. Champion pen today was a pen from Messrs Wallace, Mains of Collin selling at £225 with reserve champion pen being from Messrs Kirk, Hall of Drumpark which made £215. Topping today though was £240 twice firstly for a pen from Messrs McKie, Finniness and also from Matt Ross, Birchwood Way.
The strongest and best bred gimmers achieved a big lift on the year with many lots selling over £200, however some of the smaller end would see a slight decrease on the year resulting in the overall average only being slightly up.
Overall 2508 Scotch Mule Gimmers averaged £182.76 for 733 more sold with 1200 Members gimmers averaging £187.34 and 1316 non-members averaging £178.86. 111 Texel gimmers averaged £191.92.
Wallets Marts were favoured with the sale of Stock sheep from Messrs Parker, Mill of Plunton and Messrs Paton Gateslack. 104 Breeding ewes from Mill of Plunton sold to a top of £160 and averaged £142.80 and from Gateslack 166 Ewes sold to a top of £192 and averaged £168.78 and 85 Gimmers topped at £215 and averaged £194.54.
1147 Store lambs were an absolute flyer and well short of requirements, selling to a top of £92 for Beltex from Achie Farming with the overall average £82.03.
