Could we please ask that Vendors get sheep to the Market as early as possible on a Tuesday morning. Clipping is from 8.00am onwards and we would like if sheep were available for them to start at that time.
The General Licence allowing not negative BVD animals to be sold through marts will be revoked on the 31 December 2015. From the 1st January 2016 all bovine animals sold through marts are required to have a negative BVD status.
Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited held their weekly sale of 984 prime lambs and cast sheep on Tuesday 5th January 2016.
743 prime lambs sold to average 172.06(SQQ 176.68) All classes of lambs were sharper on the week with a smaller show forward.
Lambs today sold to top of £86.50 for heavyweights from Potterland, Castle Douglas. Top price per kilo was for a pen of 45 Suffolks scaling 44.1kgs selling at £84.50 and 191.6p per kg
197 cast sheep sold sharper to a top of £127.50 for a Texel from Kirkbride, Auldgirth. Rams sold to £120 for Suffolk from Potterland. Blackface ewes to £54 from Hannaston.
A small show of store lambs sold to £49 from Dunneslin.
